Most schools and school districts have planning and lockdown protocols in place on how to “lockdown” the exterior of a school or the interior of a classroom. These policies are
a good start in responding to an intruder within a school or school building. What has become clear is that lockdown protocols/policies alone ARE NOT ENOUGH.

Mass casualties have occurred when the school in which the attack was taking place
was in LOCKDOWN mode. What was clear from the tragedies that occurred at Columbine, Virginia Tech and other school shooting tragedies is that there was no recognition of “lockdown failure” by those that were affected and additionally there was NO training
or policies in place on what to do if LOCKDOWN FAILS! These 4 hr or 8 hr training courses provide your school with proven strategies and concepts on first of all RECOGNIZING when lockdown fails and then knowing WHAT TO DO when lockdown fails. The “3-OUT” strategies and approach that we teach to “lockdown failure” is reviewed, toured and practically applied by all personnel who participate in these training courses.

Simply having protocols in place and providing training in a classroom environment via tabletop exercises DOES NOT provide your staff with the tools necessary to achieve
a reasonable expectation of success if a school attack were to occur. These seminars provide BOTH a classroom and practical scenario/exercises so that your staff can practice what they have learned in a “reasonable simulation” of the real thing.

We have extensive experience in teaching these courses to school personnel all over
the United States with over 1,100 personnel attending them in 2009 alone. The response(s) from those that have participated include statements such as:

  • “I never knew what to do before if a shooter was to make it into my room!”
  • “I always felt like a victim before when we were in lockdown mode . . . not knowing what we would do if the attacker made it into our classroom”
  • “I feel so much more prepared and EMPOWERED now that I have some easy, common senses strategies on what to do if a shooter makes it into my room!”
